“ If you want a superb tour of the WW1 battlefields then you can do no better than be guided by Patrick! Himself a senior military man of considerable contemporary experience, he cleverly sets out an interesting series of events that, at the end of each day, come together to provide a fascinating insight into The Great War. This is an outstanding tour that is most highly recommended! Superbly well done Patrick! “

“ This was a wonderfully constructed tour, that took good account of the interests and needs of an eccentric and challenging group of London friends. Patrick has put considerable thought and ingenuity into his tours, with personalised information folders, and a tour programme that without doubt allows his guests a glimpse into a world they would not otherwise encounter - including visits to private sites and access to collections that would elude the casual visitor. He spent the day under fire with innumerable (left-of-field) questions from a demanding audience, and came out with flying colours, following up, as promised, with further information and links to sites of interest. He has our unquestioning very firm recommendation. ”

“ We stumbled across Patrick's website over the internet and ended up with him planning what was to be the highlight of our 7 week trip through Europe and the UK.
Patrick carefully researched the information we had provided him about George Calder, one of the Zonnebeke Five, and presented us with an extremely well planned and enjoyable day. His amazing knowledge of the war and the battlefields, and his friendly manner, made it a day we will remember. I would recommend Patricks tour to anyone.
Hopefully some day we can return for another! “

“ My summary is this. Patrick combined the human touch, presenting not just the grand narrative, but also the narratives of individual soldiers, with ahistorical information in an articulate way, with insights and knowledge gained through his own personal research and scholarly activity. The result? The mix of knowledge, reflection and acuity in bringing the historical environment to life added up to what I think was easily the best guided tour I have been on in twenty years or more. I am a professional historian, albeit of another period, but I was looking for something special in a battlefield tour. I found it and this is why I have taken the time and trouble to write this review. “
